Loftus Street Circular Quay

Loftus Street & Customs House Lane Public Domain Upgrade
Client: City of Sydney
Project Type: Streetscape
Project Status: In progress

Project Overview

As part of the City of Sydney's city north public domain plan, we’re upgrading Loftus Street, Reiby Place at the intersection with Loftus Street, and Customs House Lane.  The project will improve safety for people walking, accessibility and amenity, reduce through traffic and maintain service and delivery access for surrounding businesses. It will also provide opportunities for outdoor dining and events.

Key features of the upgrade include:

  • Pedestrianisation and Timed Closures: Loftus Street (north of Reiby Place) and Customs House Lane will be closed to vehicles from 11am to 12am daily. Outside of these hours, these streets will operate as a 10km/h shared zone for service and delivery access.
  • Continuous Footpath Treatments: At the intersections of Reiby Place with Loftus Street, Pitt Street and the intersection of Loftus Street with Loftus Lane.
  • Street Trees Planting: In the new shared zone on Loftus Street and a long Alfred Street.
  • Lighting Enhancements: Improved lighting around Customs House to enhance safety and visibility.
  • These upgrades aim to enhance pedestrian safety, accessibility, and amenity, reduce through traffic, improve lighting for better safety, and maintain service and delivery access for local businesses.
